چکیده

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a commonly performed procedure that provides reliable pain relief to those suffering from knee arthritis. While technologies and surgical techniques have improved, complications can and do still occur.1–9 One of the most serious potential complications is postoperative patellar instability.4,10–12 Patellar instability can often be treated by correcting the rotation of malpositioned implants. When the implants are in appropriate position, this can be a more complex problem to treat. Recently, there has been interest in reconstructing themedial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) to treat postoperative patellar instability.13,14 The purpose of this case report is to describe the use of MPFL reconstruction as an adjunct to femoral component revision and to treat such a case of postoperative patellar instability.

Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction for patellar dislocation due to rupture of the medial structures after total knee arthroplasty: a case report and review of the literature.

Patellar dislocation is a well-recognized major complication after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Treatment of this injury is determined according to the cause of the dislocation. In particular, proximal realignment, distal realignment, and lateral retinaculum release are options if patellar instability is not caused by prosthetic malposition. Here we report a case of patellar dislocation follo...

Lateral patellofemoral ligament reconstruction using a free gracilis autograft.

Medial patellofemoral instability is a rare, disabling condition that is often associated with the wrong indication for lateral retinacular release or overcorrection with medializing tibial tubercle osteotomy. It is an even less common complication after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The lateral patellofemoral ligament is an important lateral stabilizer of the patella against medial subluxatio...

Knee Squeaking Secondary to Intra-articular Nonabsorbable Suture: A Report of 2 Cases

Joint squeaking has classically been described after total hip arthroplasty using a ceramic-on-ceramic bearing surface. This phenomenon has also been found to occur after total knee arthroplasty and can be associated with patient concern and dissatisfaction. However, it has not been described in the postsurgical native knee. We present 2 cases of knee squeaking after medial patellofemoral ligam...

Management of chronic lateral instability due to lateral collateral ligament deficiency after total knee arthroplasty: a case report

INTRODUCTION Lateral instability following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a rare condition with limited report of treatment options. The objective of this case presentation is to demonstrate the outcomes of different surgical procedures performed in a single patient with lateral collateral ligament (LCL) deficiency. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case of chronic lateral instability due to L...

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction in a Below-Knee Amputee

Patellar instability is a common finding in patients with below-knee amputation and yet management options are not commonly described in the literature. We describe the first reported case of a medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction using allograft in a patient with a below-knee amputation. Clinical outcome at two-year follow-up remains very good.
